The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans organization, devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a not-for-profit community service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members, men and women, in nearly 15,000 American Legion posts worldwide.

If you are on active duty today, serving honorably, anywhere in the world, or have served honorably during any eligible war eras, become a member of The American Legion!

American Legion Post 71 is comprised of over 250 Clayton, NC area military veterans. We have members who have served during World War II through Operation Iraqi Freedom. Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at the Legion Hall located at 1300 Old US 70 W in Clayton. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM and a complimentary meal is served.
